Isles of Scilly

Destination Management Plan

The islands' first Destination Management Plan: a long-term framework for a sustainable, resilient visitor economy.

Isles of Scilly — Destination Management Plan
Insight & feasibilityIsles of Scilly

Each of the Isles of Scilly has its own distinct identity, visitor offer and tourism season, creating both opportunities and challenges for the destination as a whole. The islands wanted to develop a shared Destination Management Plan that could unite businesses, communities and partners behind a common vision while respecting the individuality of each island.

Working in partnership with Yellow Railroad Consulting, CTConsults developed the islands' first Destination Management Plan, providing a long-term framework for a more sustainable and resilient visitor economy. The plan balanced the needs of residents, businesses and visitors, recognising that around 80% of islanders are directly or indirectly connected to tourism.

The strategy established priorities for leadership, transport, housing, visitor accommodation, environmental stewardship, culture and heritage, skills, digital technology, business productivity and extending the visitor season. It continues to provide a shared framework for destination management, helping coordinate investment and decision-making across the islands while protecting the qualities that make the Isles of Scilly unique.
