The key to the successful relocation of over 1,000 staff, from London to Salford / Manchester, was the need to overcome misperceptions about the creative and cultural offer of the city region, and help relocating staff settle quickly and positively. BBC North recognised that CTConsults could apply its destination marketing skills to the task and that staff would respond well to its distinctive and independent style.
We produced The Urban Insider – a 48-page welcome to the city, packed with the sort of features, information and handpicked tips and recommendations that BBC staff needed (this content was also made available online for tourist visitors).
Alongside this the BBC commissioned us to produce a series of after-hours social events in cultural venues where relocated staff and their families could meet up with each other, in stimulating but relaxed environments, to help them network and settle.
